Bambi
ongoing project since 2019
To this day, various bronze creatures continue to populate public spaces in and around Zurich – an array of fountain figures or sculptures that adorn urban spaces and parks. There are horse sculptures that play an important role in the monumental tradition and more exotic animals, such as penguins or panthers, introduced between the 1930s and early 1960s. One of the all-time favourites, however, seems to have been the native fawn – either on its own or in tandem with a doe.
In order to document this anachronistic form of public art, the series “Bambi” turns the spotlight onto animal statues that we tend to barely notice in our daily lives. By using artificial lighting, the urban context is relegated to the background, while the sculptural quality dramatically comes to the fore.
