Peak Architekten

From the summit of the Klein Matterhorn mountain in the Zermatt area, visitors can enjoy an unrivalled view of the surrounding mountain peaks, including the legendary Matterhorn. For the design of the new summit station, Peak Architects used the visual power of the mountain as their initial inspiration. Building at this altitude is truly a challenge: This is where engineering skills, technology, and design join forces. The functional building is reduced to a few elements. Its crystalline form references the rocky surroundings. Viewed from the inside, the glass shell with its semi-opaque solar cells is reminiscent of church windows, an association that is emphasised by the skeletal appearance of the wooden supporting structure.
